S-5! PV Kit Evolution: From Version 1.0 to 2.0

S-5! has long offered its PV (photovoltaic) mounting kit for installing solar panels on metal roofs. These kits work seamlessly with S-5! Mini clamps, with the specific clamp model depending on your roof’s seam type.

Recently, S-5! redesigned its system, so it’s essential to understand both versions.

S-5! has long offered its PV (photovoltaic) mounting kit for installing solar panels on metal roofs. These kits work seamlessly with S-5! Mini clamps, with the specific clamp model depending on your roof’s seam type.

Recently, S-5! redesigned its system, so it’s essential to understand both versions.

PV Kit Version 1.0 (Being Phased Out)

The original PV kit featured an M8 bolt with a disc washer and a bracket clamping mechanism at the top. Installation was straightforward: screw the kit into the mini clamp, position your solar panel module on the disc, and sandwich it between the disc and the U-bracket.

One clever feature was its universal design. The same kit worked for both mid-array and edge positions.

For edge installations, you snapped off one side of the U-bracket.

The disc also included clips underneath for cable management, keeping installations tidy.

PV Kit 2.0 (Current Standard)

S-5! has launched the PV Kit 2.0, offering several improvements while maintaining compatibility with mini clamps.

The new system features:

Dedicated Components: Unlike version 1.0, there are now two distinct parts—a “mid grab” for panels in the middle of arrays and an “edge grab” for perimeter installations.

The mid grab functions similarly to the original U-bracket, while the edge grab features a half-bracket design with “grab ears” on one side and an integrated cable management channel on the other.

Enhanced Design Features:

      •          Bevelled grab ears for easier panel placement

      •     Multi-directional mounting disc for flexible orientation

      •     Pre-assembled components for faster installation

      •     Plunging teeth for more aggressive, secure fixing

      •     Low-profile bolt head for a sleek appearance

      •     Single-tool installation using just a hex bit or Allen key

Universal Compatibility

Both versions accommodate solar panels between 30-46mm thick, covering the majority of modules on the market.

With the S5! PV Kit, no solar rails are needed. These clamps attach directly to your panels, simplifying the entire installation process.

Purchasing Considerations

While version 1.0 is being phased out, you may still find it available in some places. The PV Kit 2.0 is now the standard, offering improved performance and easier installation for solar mounting on standing seam metal roofs.
